The Early Writing Screener is an early writing developmental check for toddlers or preschoolers aged 2 – 3 years.

We recommend that the screener is taken at around 2 years and 8 months. However, it can be taken earlier or later according to individual needs and circumstances. For instance, many preschoolers with special learning needs or delayed development take the screener at 3 or 4 years old.

Yes, the screener can be used for all children regardless of learning needs and development. However, we would advice that you contact us on admin@morecurricular.co.uk to discuss further.

The process is simple and can be done at home with the use of your phone. The child writes and draws some simple objects on paper. Photos are taken on your phone or scanned onto a PC and then uploaded to the More Handwriting portal for analysis. We will provide a report with guidance within 3 working days.

The report, which includes guidance to support early writing development, is emailed to you within 3 working day. We use the email address that you used to purchase and download the screener.

Our FREE mini assessment is a quick test for automaticity, a key cognitive process required for handwriting.  We also look at some letter and join formations.

Please note, if you require full analysis of letter, word and join formation, then you will need to purchase the full assessment.

Our FREE mini handwriting assessment is suitable for ages 5+.

Email admin@morehandwritingapp.co.uk to get your FREE mini assessment and it will be emailed to you within 2 working days. The mini assessment is a paper-based and takes about 15 minutes to administer at home.

Then email it back to us at admin@morehandwritingapp.co.uk, and we will return a report within 48 hours. The report will identify any issues with automaticity, assess some letter/join formation and advice to support any issues.

The More Handwriting App is a handwriting assessment tool that assesses handwriting automaticity and formation, which is the ability to write letters of the alphabet and words fluently and legibly

You download a paper-based assessment for your student/child to complete. Once completed, you upload it back to us.

The assessment is marked and analysed using the More Handwriting App. A comprehensive evaluation of your student/child’s handwriting is returned to you within 24 hours, identifying the degree of automaticity, any problems associated with letter/word/sentence formation and remedial action.

Log onto your account and click on Upload on the menu bar.

Log onto your account and click on Account and then the submenu, My Files. Click on My Files to be taken to the files download page. Your handwriting assessment report will be available for one calendar month to view and download.

The assessment report will give a detailed analysis of your child’s level of proficiency in handwriting automaticity, letter/number/word/join formation,  handwriting speed, spatial awareness and sentence awareness.  It will also show proficiency against the UK handwriting curriculum.

Please note Year 1 assessment and report does not assess cursive (joined up) writing or speed.

We do not profess to be better or worse than other assessment tools, but we do pride ourselves on using the latest or seminal educational research to inform the design of our products. We work on the basic philosophy that a child cannot learn unless they know how to learn. Therefore, unlike the DASH assessment which focuses on handwriting speed, we assess handwriting automaticity, letter/join formation, speed and spatial awareness.  This reveals if your child has mastered the key development steps needed for good handwriting skills.

Our assessment is based on the requirements for the UK primary school curriculum, covering Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2.  However, it can be a value handwriting assessment regardless of country that you live in.

We do not encourage a student/child who not in yet in Year 1 to take the assessment. It is vital that your student/child is handwriting-ready and has been given the opportunity to master pencil/pen control and early motor skills associated with writing.

However, a student/child older than the year groups should take the Year 6 assessment.

Any student/child can take the assessment regardless of educational needs.  However, we advise that you contact us at admin@morehandwritingapp.co.uk to discuss our assessments before any purchase is made

An account is created automatically when you purchase an assessment (except the FREE mini assessment), that is unless you already have one. Accounts are cancelled one calendar month after you receive your assessment results for all purchases of the Early Writing Screener, More Handwriting App and Mini Assessment.

Your account gives you access to all the assessments you have purchased and downloaded. In addition, if you purchased the More Handwriting App, you can view your assessment results.

When your account is set up, you will be asked to enter your email address. Your email address is your username and a computer generated password will be emailed to you. Please check your spam folder if it is not in your inbox.

Your account is cancelled one calendar month after you receive your assessment results. Please note that once your account is cancelled, we do not hold any customer data or information about assessments or results.

If you would like to cancel your account before this period, please email admin@morehandwritingapp.co.uk for it to be removed.
